Why do I need insurance?
Auto insurance provides financial protection in the event of an accident.
Most states require proof that you can pay for injuries or damages caused
by the use of your car. Having the right insurance coverage can protect
you from depleting your financial resources if you should have an accident.
Along with the expense of repairing or replacing your vehicle, you
may also be liable for paying for someone else’s car or property
and maybe even their medical expenses. You may also have medical expenses
yourself for other passengers in your vehicle. The ultimate benefit
of carrying auto insurance is the peace of mind it provides for you
and your family.
What coverages are available?
Bodily Injury: Protects you from the expenses which you may be legally
obligated to pay for injuries sustained by others involved in the accident.
This coverage also provides for defense costs if a lawsuit is brought
against you in regard to an auto accident.
Property Damage: Pays for damages to the property of others which
you may have caused with your vehicle. Houses, landscaping, and other
types of non-vehicle property are all covered by Property Damage insurance.
Medical Payments: Covers expenses for injuries sustained by you and
other occupants of your car at the time of an accident. If you often
carry passengers in your vehicle, in a carpool for example, it's a good
idea to have plenty of Medical Payment coverage to protect yourself.
Collision Coverage: Provides coverage to your car for damages caused
by a collision with another vehicle or object. Although Collision coverage
is not required in most states, your bank or leasing company may require
you to carry it. It's in your best interest to find out before an accident
if they do.
Comprehensive Coverage: Covers damage to your vehicle by any cause
other than Collision. Some examples include: damage caused by hail,
vandalism, animals, or falling objects such as tree limbs.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury: Provides coverage for
injuries which you are legally entitled to recover from the owner or
operator of an uninsured or underinsured vehicle. This coverage adds
very little to your insurance bill, but is very important to protect
you and your family from the many uninsured vehicles on the roads.
Uninsured Motorist Property Damage: Provides coverage for property
damage you are legally entitled to recover from the owner or operator
of an uninsured vehicle which damages your own vehicle.
Towing and Labor: Provides payment for the cost to have your vehicle
towed to a repair shop or storage facility in cases of vehicle failure.
Rental Reimbursement: Reimburses you for rental costs when your vehicle
is disabled due to a Comprehensive or Collision loss.
What do I do in case of an accident?
First, if anyone is injured, immediately call for help. Never attempt
to move an injured person. Next, call the police and don't leave the
scene of the accident until they arrive.
Collect the names, numbers, insurance company numbers, and driver's
license numbers from everyone involved including witnesses. You should
also jot down the make, model, and year of the car, it's license plate
number, the time of day, weather and road conditions, and your driving
speed.
Don't accept fault for the accident, tell any party how much insurance
you carry, accept any money, or agree to forget about the situation.
Finally, notify your friends at InsureMax. We'll be there for you!
